Defoamers are chemical additives used to prevent, reduce or eliminate foam in cement slurries or drilling fluids. Defoamers work by adding into the slurry or spreading rapidly over the foamy surface and breaking down the bubbles. They need to have partial solubility in the foaming medium to be effective; being too soluble or too insoluble can reduce their effectiveness.
